Report shows that money is being wasted in Welsh NHS

12.00.00am GMT Wed 20th Jan 2010

Commenting on the report by the Nuffield Trust which shows that the Welsh NHS has lower levels of productivity than the English NHS despite spending more, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Minister, Peter Black said:

"There is no point in having a better funded NHS than England if we do not get better outcomes. If we are spending more and not getting results, then that means money is being wasted.

"The Health Minister must reconsider her decision not to investigate waste in the NHS. We must ensure the best value for money for taxpayers and the best services for patients and that is not being achieved. Evidence to the Finance committee suggests £1billion is being wasted, why does the Minister refuse to take this seriously?"
