Kirsty launches new Welsh Lib Dem blog service

12.00.00am GMT Mon 15th Dec 2008

New Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Kirsty Williams is to launch a new blog aggregator, which brings all the party's bloggers under a single banner.

The site has been test operating during the leadership election, and brings together the work of Welsh Lib Dem bloggers across Wales.

Kirsty Williams, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats said: "I firmly believe that politics should be for everyone in Wales - not just people who live in and around the Cardiff Bay Bubble. That's why blogs are an increasingly important part of the way politics is done, not just in Wales, but around the world.

"Blogs allow anyone to have their say. And they bring politics to wherever you are, not some building which may be hundreds of miles from your home.

"Whether you agree with the things that bloggers write or not, I hope that bringing together all the Welsh Lib Dem bloggers in to one place, will provide a showcase for liberal thinking and commentary. I hope it will encourage other people to consider blogging - particularly women, who - as in the real world - are underrepresented in the Welsh blogosphere."

Peter Black AM, the original Welsh Liberal Democrat blogger, added: "There is a growing recognition that blogging has a prominent place at the heart of modern politics. It is one of the few all-Wales mediums, that creates a space for a genuine debate about the ideas that shape our country's future.

"The great advance on other mediums, is that blogging allows people to enter in to a dialogue with others. It isn't just telling people - like some early 20th century MP who turns up twice a year to address his constituents. It's a way of starting a real conversation about the ideas that shape our society."
