Mr. Black has written to the Economy and Transport Minister after he learned that the factory has been in receipt of three Regional Selective Assistance grants totalling £3,562,000. Only one has been completed and the final claims on the other two are expected shortly.
"At this time of year it is a devastating blow to the workers at Borg Warner to hear that they will shortly be losing their jobs," said Mr. Black "They have been victims of the economic downturn in the same way as many other factories in our area. The Welsh Government however need to answer questions as to the effectiveness of their grants to Borg Warner and what will happen to that money now. These grants were given to secure employment on this site but they have failed to do that. Will it be possible to claw back this money so that it can be used elsewhere?"
"I have written to the Economy and Transport Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones to ask him what he will be doing to recover this public money. I have also asked the Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales for an urgent question on this matter".
