Mr. Black has also written to the Minister for Health, Edwina Hart AM to ask her to confirm that any changes made to the Minor Injuries Unit at Singleton Hospital will be subject to a full public consultation.
There has been growing public concern that plans being considered by Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University NHS Trust may well to stop the twenty four hour cover currently available at the Hospital. The reason for this proposal is blamed on a shortage of trained staff. The Trust say that the unit has been forced to close due to staff shortages on a number of occasions this year.
"These plans could have a considerable effect on the emergency medical facilities provided to parts of Western Swansea and Gower," said Mr Black. "As such it is only right that those affected should be entitled to have a say. I am not convinced that the answer to unexpected interruptions in service is scheduled closure. The poor road access and travel times to Morriston from the west means that there is a need for an additional facility at Singleton. For many people Morriston Hospital is too far to travel and this is not helped by its difficult to find location."
"It is vital that these plans are subject to a full debate and consultation before any decision is taken. The public must be allowed their say."
