Don't miss winter fuel deadline for Christmas payment say Dunvant Councillors11.11.49pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 12th Sep 2007 Dunvant's Welsh Lib Dem Councillors Nick Tregoning and John Newbury are reminding people not to miss the 21st September deadline for putting in a claim for the winter fuel payment if they haven't already done so or don't qualify automatically. "The winter fuel payment of up to £200 for those aged 60 to 79 (up to £300 for those over 80) should automatically go to those who have had it before," said John Newbury. "Also, people who are getting the state pension or other benefits - except housing benefit, council tax benefit, or child benefit - in the qualifying week of 17th to 23rd September should get the payment automatically as well." "The problem comes if you're over 60 but not getting a state pension or benefits - then you need to claim, and to make sure you get the money by Christmas then you'll need to have that claim in by 21st September," added Nick Tregoning. "Contact the helpline - 08459 151515, or go online at www.thepensionservice.gov.uk for more details. Don't miss out!" "We're not putting out our next community newsletter until after the deadline, so we though the best way to let people in Dunvant - and elsewhere - know was to contact the Evening Post, and our local radio stations."
