Welsh Liberal Democrats visit biofuels plant8.50.55pm GMT Mon 19th Feb 2007
Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Group Leader Michael German, local AM Peter Black and South Wales West candidate Jackie Radford today visited Welsh Biofuels Ltd in Bridgend. The company makes wood pellets from recycled pallet material and wood derived from packaging sources. The resulting fuel is efficient and low in carbon emissions. Michael German said: "Biomass heating systems have been described as the cheapest way of reducing carbon emissions by the Carbon Trust, so it was great to see how the technology is being developed in Wales.
"The Welsh Liberal Democrats have already pledged to try and make greater use of clean energy technology in public buildings such as schools. It's great to see a Welsh company pioneering green energy in this way." Peter Black said: "As Education spokesperson, I want to see more schools getting their heat supplies from biomass burners, in fact I want to see more public buildings using cleaner energy technology. I'm pleased to see a company in South Wales West pioneering these methods." Jackie Radford said: "Biofuels are an alternative to fossil fuels in Wales. The Welsh Liberal Democrats want to see 100% of Wales' energy provided by renewable sources by 2050. We have a duty to be ambitious about green energy targets for the future of Wales." Managing Director of Welsh Biofuels Ken Shaw said: "The biofuels industry is a viable green alternative to fossil fuels, and Assembly funding would make a big difference. As oil prices rise, renewable energy pellets are a clean and competitive alternative."
