Offensive e-mail shows Tories have not changed says Welsh Liberal Democrat7.06.45pm GMT Mon 6th Nov 2006
An offensive e-mail sent by a Conservative Councillor, who was also their parliamentary candidate for Swansea East at the last General Election, shows that David Cameron has failed to change the nature of the Tories according to a Welsh Liberal Democrat. The email - which contains an inflammatory 'poem' that features on a white supremacist website, as well as a picture of the white cliffs of Dover with the words 'piss off - we're full' on them - was sent by Conservative Councillor Ellenor Bland to other Conservative councillors and party members. She was their candidate in Swansea East in 2005. The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Candidate for Swansea East, Helen Ceri Clarke has condemned Councillor Bland's actions: "It is totally unacceptable for elected representatives to be distributing this kind of material. Racism has absolutely no place in British politics. Local Tories must be deeply ashamed that they allowed such a person to fly the flag for them in Swansea." "Despite David Cameron's best PR efforts, the Conservative Party clearly continues to contain some deeply unpleasant elements," she added.
