Third sector must remain autonomous from Government

January 22, 2013 3:25 PM

Commenting on the Welsh government's plans to review their relationship with the third sector, Welsh Liberal Democrat shadow Minister for Finance, Peter Black AM said, "The third sectors plays a vital role in Welsh life and it is important that any government respects the need for the sector to remain autonomous of government to decide how best to meet their aims.

"A more sustainable financial footing for the sector would, of course, be welcome. This is especially the case in the current financial climate.

"But this must not be an opportunity for government to use its power to demand charities to do as they say. Funding changes should not lead to governance changes and should absolutely not be used as puppet strings to control the sector."
