The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for South Wales West, Peter Black has added his voice to those objecting to Local Health Board proposals to cut the opening hours of GP Out of Hours services at Singleton Hospital.
The proposals, which could be implemented as early as September, will see Singleton Hospital emergency services downgraded and the GP Out of Hours service transferred to Morriston.
Mr. Black said:
"People from west Swansea, West Cross, Mumbles, and Gower will have to travel further to reach Morriston, whereas Singleton is served efficiently by bus and car.
"A city the size of Swansea, both in population and geography, needs both the GP Out of Hours service at Singleton and the specialist services at Morriston.
"I have visited and had first hand experience of how efficient the Singleton service is. Putting all Out of Hours services in one place could lead to longer waiting times at A&E and overworked staff.
"It is vital that local people have a real opportunity to both express their views and have them taken into account before any proposals are taken forward. I have outlined my concerns to the Chief Executive of the ABMU Health Board and will be raising them further when he meets Assembly Members in September."
