Assembly Member expresses concern over Singleton Hospital move

July 23, 2010 12:00 AM

The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for South Wales West, Peter Black has expressed his concern over Local Health Board proposals to move the out of hours provision presently at Singleton Hospital to Morriston.

Mr. Black said:

"I have visited the present out-of-hours facility at Singleton Hospital on a number of occasions, and am fully aware of the excellent work that they are doing.

"I am not surprised that local people are worried by the Health Board's plans. The Sketty and Killay Patient Forum have already pointed out that the Singleton facility works well, is easily accessible both by car and public transport, and is efficient.

"At first glance, the Health Board's proposal seems to make little sense for people who live in west Swansea, West Cross, Mumbles, and Gower, who would have to travel further to reach Morriston. That is why there is an urgent need for the Health Board to make more information available.

"It is vital that local people have a real opportunity to both express their views and have them taken into account in taking any proposals forward."
