Commenting on the release of new statistics today that show that over 2,100 patients had to wait longer than eight hours in A&E departments in Wales during February, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Minister Peter Black AM said:
"These are worrying figures. This is the fifth month in a row that the Government has failed to meet their target of 99% of patients being treated within eight hours, and they have failed to meet their four hour target since April 2008."
"There is no point in targets for the sake of targets. The last two months have been quiet months, yet we are still seeing patients having to wait hours to get seen."
"Less of the NHS budget should be spent on bureaucracy and managers and money should be directed at helping patients and bringing waiting times under control."
