Commenting on the release of 'Creating an Active Wales' by the Welsh Assembly Government, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for Health, Peter Black said:
"This document manages to contain a large number of words, yet say very little. There are many mentions of plans, evidence bases, partnerships and strategies, but very little mention of how this will lead to more kids running around."
"The government are producing strategies these days to look like they are doing more than they are. I would much rather see a realistic, achievable, funded and thought out two page document than another sixty-eight pages of spin."
Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for Culture and Sport, Eleanor Burnham AM added:
"Local authorities are currently struggling with their funds and having to close facilities or put off refurbishment. What we needed was details on what the government will do to help local authorities provide much needed facilities for activities and sport."
"This document also fails to take into account the easiest way of keeping people in sport - making it fun!"
"The only real schemes this strategy contains are continuations of existing schemes. If this is the limit of government ambition then we should not expect any significant shift in obesity statistics any time soon."
