Radical new tax plans drawn up by the Liberal Democrats will take 27,000 people in the Swansea Bay area out of tax altogether, whilst 96,650 taxpayers will be £700 a year better off, the Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for South Wales West, Peter Black, has revealed.
The party's new tax plans will see tax cuts for millions of people, paid for by closing tax loopholes, making polluters pay and introducing a 'mansion tax' on homes worth over £2million.
Calculations carried out by the Welsh Liberal Democrats have found that there are 27,000 people in Swansea, Gower, Neath and Aberavon who currently earn less than £10,000 a year and who will no longer pay tax under the tax plans unveiled by Nick Clegg yesterday.
In addition there are nearly 96,650 taxpayers in the five constituencies who earn less than £100,000 a year who will save £700 a year, giving them an extra £60 a month in their pay packets.
Commenting on the figure, Peter Black said: 'These are ambitious plans which will help many low paid workers. The vast majority of taxpayers in Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot and Gower will benefit from the Liberal Democrats' fair tax plans."
"This will help more people who are feeling the pinch at the moment to get by - and boost the economy by making sure ordinary hard-working people are better off.
The party's Swansea West Parliamentary Candidate, Peter May added: 'It is time for a more fair and simple tax system - and it is clear that only the Liberal Democrats have plans to do this. In Swansea West nearly 25,000 people will be better off as a result of these plans. That is welcome and marks the Liberal Democrats out as the only party prepared to take practical action to deliver social justice.'
