NHS re-organisation must not wipe out progress on delayed transfers of care

May 12, 2009 12:00 AM

Commenting on the release of the report into delayed transfers of care by the Auditor General for Wales, Peter Black AM, the Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Minister, said:

"It is a testament to the hard work of professionals in the NHS that such considerable improvements have been made. This is obviously a welcome achievement."

"But there is a risk that the upcoming reorganisation of the NHS in Wales could lead to a move backwards again. Currently social services and NHS boundaries are the same. The new Local Health Boards will cover a far larger area and this will make partnership working more challenging. The Government must ensure that the new LHBs and existing social services departments plan for this well in advance of the changes commencing."
