Commenting on the statement by stroke specialist Dr Tony Rudd who has labelled stroke services in Wales as 'scandalously bad' Peter Black, the Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for Health, said:
"The Minister knew these problems existed two years ago but little has been achieved to reach the required standard. A stroke is a very serious event. It is simply shocking that many hospitals do not meet the best practice guidelines of administering a brain scan within 24 hours and administering physiotherapy within 72 hours"
"It is likely that the Minister will miss the target for all stroke patients being able to access a specialist unit by March. The Minister must explain why this target will be missed and when she expects that it will be achieved. The longer she delays the more peoples lives are put in danger."
