Shadow Welsh Liberal Democrat Health Minister Peter Black AM has called for greater attention to be paid to the growing number of young people in Wales who said in a recent Princes Trust survey that they found life to be meaningless.
Mr Black said:
The survey makes it clear that although the majority of young people in Wales take an optimistic view of their lives, one in ten felt that life was meaningless; and the figure was over one in five for those young people who were not in employment, education, or training.
While more than 70% of young people were always or mostly happy, slightly less then half of others said that they were often or always stressed, and more than a third said that they were often or always anxious. These vulnerable young people need more support.
Such feelings can give rise to difficulties for the individuals concerned later in life, as well as worry for family, friends, and employers.
Especially in the changed economic and social circumstances in which we now find ourselves, ensuring the well-being of our young people must now be an even greater priority for government at all levels.
