Commenting on the decision by the Environment Agency to allow Cwmrhydyceirw Quarry in Swansea to be used as a landfill site, Swansea Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member Peter Black said:
"I am very disappointed at the decision that has been taken by the Environment agency. There are strong suspicions that there may be hazardous waste at this site and I am not convinced that appropriate precautions will be taken in protecting the local environment from any potential pollutants remaining within and which will now be dug up as part of this operation."
Local Morriston Liberal Democrat campaigner Helen Ceri Clarke added:
"This site is going to be visited by up to twenty heavy works vehicles per day. This is a residential area with a number of schools nearby and these lorries will be posing a real risk to local children. Local people have constantly objected to the re-opening of this site because of the impact on the quality of their life, it is disappointing to see the Environment Agency ignore them."
