Welsh Liberal Democrat Social Justice Spokesperson, Peter Black has challenged Labour to complete the U-turn that they have already begun over the post offices and implement the rest of the Liberal Democrat plan to maintain and improve them.
Mr .Black said:
"I have already welcomed the news that Labour has abandoned its plans to put the vital Post Office Card Account out to tender. By doing so, they have begun to halt the successive waves of post office closures that they, and the Tories before them, inflicted upon local communities across Wales.
"However, just to stop beating the post offices is not enough. Labour now needs to complete its U-turn and implement the rest of the Liberal Democrat post office development plan in Wales and across the UK.
"Our plan - which is fully costed - calls for a £2bn investment in the network, opening new branches where communities need them, allowing the post offices to develop new business, and committing the government to maintain the network by law.
"We also need to see local government, the Welsh Assembly and government agencies use the Post Office more so as to make them more sustainable."
