Assembly Member comments on Child Poverty milestones and targets

November 25, 2008 12:00 AM

Commenting on the newly released update on the milestones and targets for eradicating child poverty, Welsh Liberal Democrat Social Justice spokesperson, Peter Black AM, said:

"There is a clear lack of progress identified in this update. Less than a third of indicators showed a clear improvement since their 'baseline year'.

"It is also worrying that for many indictors there was either insufficient data or no data to compare it with. How does the Government expect to know how well they are doing if they don't have the data to tell them? They keep telling us that they are making significant progress on Child Poverty but there is no evidence to substantiate this claim.

"The Government must concentrate their resources in the areas not yet showing an improvement, as well as ensuring that they have all the necessary data for next years update."
