Welsh Liberal Democrat Housing spokesperson Peter Black has called on the banks to get their act together over home-owners facing possible repossession.
He was speaking after some debt advice services reported that certain lenders have become more aggressive despite government calls for leniency.
"It is not be enough for the government to make mortgage lenders refer people in arrears to professional debt counselling services. Ministers should insist that lenders are less eager to go to court and that they give people longer to pay back any arrears. Thirty-six months instead of the usual twelve would be fair.
"Each taxpayer is stumping up around £6700 to help the bankers. We expect a little humility and respect in return, not for them to carry on the way they did before.
