It is not often that I am surprised by the work that comes my ways as an Assembly Member but it does happen. I know that People will contact me for many different reasons but a case I handled recently highlighted to me just how diverse the role can be.
One of our Councillors in Bridgend contacted me regarding residents in her ward that were due to be kicked out of their home because of a Welsh Assembly Government development. What made this case very different from most cases I handle is that the residents were two pet sheep called Darby and Joan.
Darby and Joan's owner Caroline Callow, had received warning that the land in Coity was required for development and the sheep would be taken away.
After extensive correspondence with the Minister for Economic Development, just a few days before Easter I received notification that the sheep would be allowed to stay for an extra six months.
I am delighted that we were able to work with the Minister for Economic Development to secure a six month extension for Darby and Joan. I am often critical of this government for being woolly minded, and giving sheepish responses, but on this occasion, the Minister has come up trumps.
