Assembly Member congratulates Swansea on transport award

The Swansea based Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member, Peter Black, has congratulated Swansea Council on winning the 'Welsh Local Authority of the Year - Policy and Planning Award' award at the National Transport Awards.
The Council scooped the prestigious award for the Local Transport Plan, including the Park and Ride and Swansea Metro (bendy bus) scheme. The award was presented to Swansea Council's Director of Environment, Reena Owen, by the Deputy First Minister and Minister for Economy and Transport, Ieuan Wyn Jones AM.
The Council is currently implementing the metro bus scheme which is being paid for by the Welsh Assembly Government and First Cymru and is expected to be rolled out by later this year.
"I would like to congratulate Swansea Council on their achievements that have led to them being presented this award. It shows just how well transport policy is being created and implemented here in Swansea." said Mr Black. "The Park and Ride scheme has been incredibly successful in getting cars out of the city centre, preventing further congestion as well as reducing pollution in the centre of Swansea."
The Labour/Plaid Welsh Government have acknowledged the work being done by Swansea Council by presenting this award. Many of these developments are based on Government money so it is reassuring to see that we have the support of those who normally oppose us politically in support us in implementing these schemes and spending taxpayers money wisely."
