Local Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member, Peter Black, spent two hours with Police Community Support Officers in Morriston's main shopping centre yesterday.
Mr. Black spent time talking with local residents, local business owners and the local police in Woodfield Street, discussing concerns in the area and witnessing successful initiatives set up to deal with them. The visit was in response to concerns of local traders and the Morriston Residents Association and provided an opportunity to investigate the work of the local police force. New police initiatives in the area were also examined.
"One of the initiatives I looked at was the StoreNet Radio System, which has been put in place to improve security for local shops in the area. The system provides local business owners with immediate contact with Morriston police and creates a greater sense of protection as well as a quicker response in the local area from the police."
"Morriston Police Station is now open until midnight on weekdays and helps to monitor the StoreNet system I also discussed the Partnership And Community Together meetings, which have increased communication between the public and the police force in the area."
Morriston Liberal Democrat Council Candidate, Helen Ceri Clarke, said "I am glad that Peter has taken the time explore the concerns of Morriston residents and traders. It's an example of the Welsh Liberal Democrats proactively engaging in the concerns of the local area."
