The Welsh Liberal Democrat Social Justice Spokesperson, Peter Black, has urged the UK Labour government to seize the chance to improve the lot of Wales' pensioners in their Pensions Bill, describing it as a 'golden opportunity'.
Mr. Black said:
"Labour has a golden opportunity to improve the lot of pensioners in Wales and throughout the UK. The Liberal Democrats want to re-forge the link between pensions and earnings this year instead of waiting until sometime between 2012 and 2015 as Labour plan to do.
"Welsh pensioners now receive less now than they did fifty eight years ago. Figures obtained by the Liberal Democrats show that pensioners now receive only 15.9% of the average wage, compared to 18.4% in 1950. These figures are a disgrace. We have had a Labour government for ten years, and yet pensioners are getting even less than under Attlee
