Following months of speculation Tony Blair announced last night that a new programme of nuclear power stations is inevitable in the UK.
Rob Speht, said "Most Energy Industry commentators acknowledge that new nuclear power stations will be built on existing sites - the closest one to Swansea is Hinckley Point, only 48 miles away as the crow flies!"
"I'm not sure that the people of Swansea realise that when they hear on the news, or read in the paper that a new wave of nuclear power stations will be built, that they will be so closely affected" he added.
"If we need new power stations, then we should be looking to Renewable Energy such as wood fired power stations, a Tidal Barrage across the Severn or Wind Turbines both on-shore and off-shore"
"These types of power station are good for the environment, good for local jobs, have very low running costs and no danger of radiation!"
"I think Tony Blair has got it wrong on this issue, and his Labour colleagues should persuade him to stop before it's too late"
