Peter Black, Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for South Wales West has attacked Labour's energy consultation, branding it "a complete farce".
Mr Black was reacting to Labour's plans to build more nuclear power stations which are among the proposals in today's Energy White Paper. An expansion of energy efficiency in homes and renewable sources such as tide and wind power are also proposed, as well as more use of biofuels and hybrid cars.
At Prime Minister's Questions, Liberal Democrat Leader, Sir Menzies Campbell, asked Tony Blair why he was so "hell bent" on building a new generation of nuclear power plants while disregarding legitimate concerns about risk, cost and toxic waste.
Mr Black said:-
"This consultation is a complete farce. Labour Ministers have clearly already decided to back nuclear.
"The government's attempt to justify nuclear on the grounds of security of supply and climate change does not stand up to scrutiny.
"Carbon capture and storage and nuclear are competing technologies on the way to the ultimate goal of a fully-renewable system.
