Local Liberal Democrat Campaigner Martin Plant has today hit out at Ogmore Labour MP Huw Irranca-Davies for voting in favour of the Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill.
The Bill, introduced by the Conservative MP David Maclean, would remove any obligation for MPs' expenses to be made public. It would also stop people from finding out what their Member of Parliament has said to other public bodies.
Commenting on the vote, Martin Plant said:
'I was very disappointed to hear that Mr Irranca-Davies voted in favour of this Bill. The actions of Mr Irranca-Davies, the Labour Party and the Conservatives have put into question the integrity of Parliament.
'Of all public figures, MPs have least right to be exempt from public scrutiny. Mr Irranca-Davies and his fellow MPs are elected to represent constituents' interests and to maintain high standards in public life.
'Mr Irranca-Davies and the Labour Government should set an example of open government, not apply it to everybody but themselves'.
