New Labour should call a General Election immediately to let the British people choose the new Prime Minister, says Prominent Local Lib Dem, Rob Speht.
The same time as New Labour Leader Mr Blair told his Cabinet he would be resigning as Labour leader, the Liberal Democrats submitted a Parliamentary motion with the aim of triggering an election. Over the next 7 weeks the Labour Party will vote for its next leader but Gordon Brown is the clear favourite.
"Tony Blair said he would serve a full third term and Labour was voted in on that basis - the people of Britain were conned!" said Rob Speht, Local Liberal Democrat Councillor for the Landore Ward
He added "An opinion poll last week showed that 73% of the British public want a General Election if Tony Blair goes, so now that Mr Blair has announced he will step down it is time to put it to the vote".
