Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Leader Mike German will visit Swansea and Bridgend today (Tuseday) with Federal Party President Simon Hughes MP and local Assembly Member Peter Black, to see Swansea redevelopment project plans and a pioneering Bridgend youth project.
Mr German said: "Swansea City Council have ambitious proposals for the city centre, with proposals for a Swansea Metro connecting the Mumbles, more community housing and a revitalised Waterfront.
Swansea Council's ambitious regeneration plans are matched by a commitment to greener action. Earlier this year, I visited the Council's composting plant, which can turn up to 7,000 tonnes of waste a year into compost. This shows how Welsh Liberal Democrat Councils are about greener actions, not just greener words."
Simon Hughes said:"Swansea Council are investing heavily in an ambitious, green future for residents and I'm looking foward to seeing the plans for myself. I'm also looking forward to visiting a real success story for young people, KPC Youth, a safe environment for teenagers to meet up in the area."
Peter Black said: "The KPC youth centre has 750 eighteen to twenty five year olds on its books from Pyle, Cornelly, Kenfig Hill and Cefn Cribwr. Since it opened, there has been a drop in crime in those communities.
"The big problem with the centre has been the lack of core funding. The Council cannot afford to pay their running costs and there is no statutory duty on them to provide these sort of facilities. I have been arguing for years in the Assembly that this should be corrected and I am pleased to say that the Welsh Liberal Manifesto will propose this.
"Everywhere I go I tell people about this centre as an example of good practice. We need more of them."
