Peter Black, Lembit Opik and Helen Ceri Clarke campaign against a new landfill site
Leading Welsh Liberal Democrats Mike German AM and Lembit Opik MP will visit a composter in Swansea today, ahead of the rally which kicks off the party's Spring Conference.
Local AM and Swansea councillor Peter Black will join them on their visit to a composting machine recently opened by the council in Llansamlet to highlight the green action of Welsh Lib Dem-led councils in Swansea, Cardiff, Wrexham and Bridgend. (cameras welcome)
Time: 4.30pm
Location: Ferryboat Close, SA6 8QM
Speaking ahead of the visit Mike German, Assembly leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, said: "In the councils lead by Welsh Liberal Democrats we are putting the green switch in to action. In Swansea this composting machine is a great example of how we can turn waste in to something useful. The council in Cardiff has opened the largest council-run recycling centre in Europe. Wrexham has doubled recycling rates. In Bridgend, they now have kerbside recycling for the first time.
"Welsh Liberal Democrats have been at the forefront of the green agenda . While the other parties are finally taking note of this issue, we are already making a difference at local leve, and have ambitious policies to put Wales at the forefront of the Green revolution."
The plant was built by teh TEG Group, who operated it until it was handed over to the council. It can turn up to 7,000 tonnes of year of garden and kitchen scraps in to compost.
