The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for South Wales West, Peter Black has joined the fight to get the Assembly to reconsider its decision on the Royal Fern Golf development in Swansea.
The scheme would have seen £35million being invested in Swansea in a new golf course, housing, serviced accommodation and one of the biggest golf education and coaching programmes in Wales. It would have given City a major facility so as to enable it to capitalise on the Ryder Cup when it comes to Wales in 2010.
M.r Black said, "I have written to the First Minister to ask him to review the decision by a three person sub-committee and to ask him to look again at the planning decision. I believe that the outcome of that Committee in defiance of a favourable inspector's report, and the support of Swansea Council for the development was perverse and needs to be revisited."
"The Ryder Cup offers a huge opportunity for South Wales and I am keen that Swansea will be in a position to benefit from it. I cannot understand how three AMs could ignore the wide support and very positive arguments for this planning application. If the First Minister has the power to intervene then he urgently needs to do so."
