The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Candidate for Swansea East, Helen Ceri Clarke has called on those local Councillors who condemned Blaenymaes as 'notorious' to apologise to local residents.
She was referring to a debate in the Council Chamber in which Labour members for the Penderry Ward and one of the Independent Councillors for Mynyddbach argued that the area was unsuitable for a children's home due to alleged high levels of anti-social behaviour there.
"Some councillors think it's acceptable to talk down Blaenymaes, I don't.
The area has had its problems but local people have worked very hard to improve the quality of life for residents and to see their own Councillors denigrating their effort in this way must feel like a real slap in the face to them."
"Communities across Swansea East need our support to improve their areas, not the derision of Councillors who clearly are out of touch with the very people they claim to represent."
