Assembly Member congratulates Swansea schools

The Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly member for South Wales West, Peter Black, has sent his congratulations to a number of schools in the Swansea area for their hard work in achieving the Basic Skills Agency Quality Mark.
Pontlliw Primary School, Gwyrosydd Primary School and Danygraig Primary School have all been awarded the Quality Mark for their attainment in the teaching of literacy and numeracy.
To be awarded the Quality Mark, a school has to meet minimum standards in the teaching of literacy and numeracy. A school must demonstrate that it meets 10 elements, including having a whole school strategy, assessing and reviewing pupil performance, having a target for improvement of the school's performance and involving parents in developing their children's basic skills. The Quality Mark is based on a partnership with Local Authorities and is awarded to a school for three years.
Commenting on the awards, Mr Black said: "These three schools should be congratulated for achieving such a high standard in their teaching. They have obviously worked very hard in ensuring that their students receive the highest possible quality of education. They have cause to be very proud of themselves and their achievements."
